Bio

Duygu Atlas is the program coordinator of the Süleyman Demirel Program for Contemporary Turkish Studies. She is also on the editorial board of the Middle East News Brief.

Her research interest is Turkey's minorities. In her M.A. thesis, she explored the "democratic (Kurdish) opening" process and the solidification of Kurdish nationalism in Turkey. Her PhD dissertation deals with Turkey's Jewish minority and their identity formation. She has book chapters on the status and political significance of the Kurdish language in Turkey and the Kurdish presence at the Gezi Park protests of 2013.
