Joe Petry is a Clinical Professor of Economics and Finance at the University of Illinois at Urbana -Champaign. Joe was awarded his PhD in Economics from the University of Illinois in 1991 with an emphasis on economic development. He spent the early years of his career working in the private sector. He worked as an Economist at General Motors, Eaton Corporation, Citigroup and Credit Suisse First Boston. His responsibilities included international expansion efforts, pricing strategies and advising clients on global stock, bond and foreign exchange portfolios. While in the private sector, he taught as adjunct faculty at IUPUI, John Carroll University and New York University. In 2001, Joe returned to teaching full time at the University of Illinois where his passion is bringing real world experience to the classroom. He teaches macroeconomics, statistics, and managerial economics currently, and has taught a broad range of topics in the finance field, including financial markets and real estate. He continues to maintain private sector involvement through ownership in numerous businesses.
