Bio

Steve Walker is Professor of Accounting at Edinburgh University Business School where he teaches Advanced Financial Accounting and a course on the accounting profession. He was previously Professor of Accounting at Cardiff Business School and has served as head of the accounting department at both Cardiff and Edinburgh universities. Steve has an undergraduate degree from the University of Kent and a PhD from the University of Edinburgh. He is a member of the Institute of Chartered Accountants of Scotland to which he was admitted following training with Ernst & Young.

Steve’s research interests concern interdisciplinary perspectives on accounting. Specifically, he studies accounting and gender, accounting and social institutions and the professionalisation of accounting. In 2005 he received the Hourglass Award of the Academy of Accounting Historians and is a past president of that organisation. He has served as the editor of two accounting history journals and is currently a member of the editorial boards of nine accountancy journals. Steve has held visiting positions at Deakin University, Glasgow University, Sydney University, and Victoria University of Wellington.
