Simon Fölling is a senior sicentist working at the Ludwig-Maximilians University (LMU) in Munich and the Max-Planck-Institute for Quantum Optics. He studied physics in Heidelberg and Stony Brook, and obtained his PhD from the university of Mainz working on ultracold bosonic atoms in optical lattice potentials. He spent his postdoc at the Center for Ultracold Atoms at Harvard University in Cambridge / USA, in a project that realized a quantum gas microscope to image individual atoms in a trap. After that, he moved to Munich, where he is senior scientist and lecturer at LMU, leading experiments on ultracold quantum gases and teaching quantum optics and many-body phsycis with atoms.
