About the Course

Learn the inner workings of operating systems without installing anything! This course is designed for learners who are looking to maximize performance by understanding how operating systems work at a fundamental level. The modules in this course cover the basics of the C language, processes, scheduling, and memory. To allow for a truly hands-on, self-paced learning experience, this course is video-free. Assignments contain short explanations with images and runnable code examples with suggested edits to explore code examples further, building a deeper understanding by doing. You’ll benefit from instant feedback from a variety of assessment items along the way, gently progressing from quick understanding checks (multiple choice, fill in the blank, and un-scrambling code blocks) to slowly building features, resulting in large coding projects at the end of the course....

Solid course to get an idea about basic workings of Virtualization. The assignments are really challenging and took me quite some time! Would definitely recommend!

Few corrections to be done such as wrong answer in question of malloc/calloc. Also, week3 exercise a bit more tough while others very simplified. Overall, it was good learning.

This course is very confused. It has not decided if it wants to be either a: 1) Introduction to operating systems 2) Introduction to coding C code that interacts with operating systems 3) Introduction to how to code your own operating system. As such, I cannot really see what I can use the information in this course for. I was looking for a course that explains how operating systems work, and how to make my own operating system - and this course is NOT that. And - I don't really know what else it is.

A good walk-through of the OS basics. Could have more OS programming exercises or implementational projects. Some minor bugs with the Codio IDE could be fixed.

When it's teaching the basics of an operating system, it's fairly clear and well done. But midway through (Assignment 3), it requires a huge amount of C++ (or largely C, given you're restricted in package use) knowledge. It's frankly bizarre to have that dropped out of nowhere, and it in no way deepens or furthers ones' understanding of the surrounding material.
