[SOUND] [MUSIC] Welcome to the Creativity Toolkit. We're both really excited to teach this course. >> [LAUGH] >> Mainly because we not only teach creativity, but we've also spent at least a decade or more actively doing research on it and thinking about it constantly. So it's something we're excited about. >> It's what got me into this business. My first research project was creativity, yours too. >> Yes, mine too, yes. >> Yes, so, guilty. >> Long history. >> Two decades, I don't know whatever it is right, long time >> So why is this interesting, right? So I mean, we like it because we study this, but I think, it's common to think like, only some people should be creative. >> Yes. >> Or there are only some activities where I can be creative, and other than that creativity's sort of irrelevant. I'm not one of those people with crazy hair and I don't make paintings for a living and so it doesn't matter. I mean I think that's really, really common. >> So one of the things we'll learn is that creativity is much broader than that. It's applicable in many, many situations, many, many kinds of work. And you also don't need to be one of these creative geniuses to do it. >> Right we can all get more creative. That's the other thing when we talk to people, I think we assume I'm as creative as I am. But in fact, no, it's not sort of a lightning strikes magic moment but rather it's a process. And we can get better at that process. And that's really what we're going do, right. >> Yes. >> And I mean in this course we are going to break down what is the process, how do you go through it, what happens during the process, how can we encourage you to persist with the process? >> Yes. >> So that we can get more effective, more efficient at going through it. >> Right, and so when we're done, you should have a clear understanding of not only what creativity is, but how to get there in a systematic way that doesn't rely on just hoping for pure chance to- >> [LAUGH] >> - to give you good luck one day. There's actually a process. >> So let's do it, Creativity Toolkit. [SOUND]
