Hello and welcome to data science fundamentals for data analysts. My name is Mark Roepke, and along with my colleagues at Databricks we're going to guide you through the fundamental building blocks of data science. Data science is one of the fastest growing fields in the world and it starts with a great foundation in scientific reasoning, quantitative methods, and the ability to take advantage of technological tools. >> As we progress through the course, we will be using the databricks platform. Databricks is the data in AI company. Thousands of organizations worldwide rely on data. Databricks is open and unified data platform to enable data scientists, data engineers, and data analysts to develop, collaborate, and innovate faster. >> The founders of databricks are the original creators of Apache Spark, Delta Lake, and ML flow, and those are some of the most popular open source data project in the world. In this course you will use some of these technologies on the free databricks platform to help you become an effective in modern data scientist. >> With this course, we're bringing our data science expertise directly to you. With the help of our industry leading data scientists, we've designed this course to build ready to apply data science skills in just 15 hours of learning. First will teach you to describe how data science uses interdisciplinary skills to solve real world problems. Next will develop the skills necessary to apply foundational data science concepts from inferential statistics. Third you'll learn to frame real world problems, so they can be solved using data science and machine learning. Then you will develop the skills necessary to describe common machine learning techniques, and how to measure their effectiveness. And finally we will finish the course by learning to assess and communicate the success of data science and machine learning solutions, for real world problems. >> So at this point you might be wondering if this course is right for you, and that's a really good question. This course is designed for people who want to learn the basics of data science and machine learning. If you're taking this course, we expect that you're bringing a few skills with you, like an intermediate level of experience with SQL, and the familiarity with the databricks ecosystem. And with that, let's begin. By the end of this course, you'll be ready to start tackling a variety of real world problems using data science. You will have an understanding of what data science. The knowledge of its basic building blocks and workflow, and experience completing and evaluating a guided data science project.
