[MUSIC] Hey professor Wang last week I had a really odd experience. >> So can tell me what happened. >> Sure my friend inviting me, my Chinese friend, invited me to a 22nd birthday party and he told me to come at 7 But I went at eight, an hour later. And when I got there everyone was looking at me because I was so late, and they all looked like they were very sad about me being late. >> Okay. Here is the case. You are invited to a banquet instead of a party. But to those banquet, you're supposed to arrive on time or no later than ten minutes. >> Okay, okay. Well, that's true. There was more of a banquet than a party. And also, I realized that the cuisines were good, we had a lot of Chinese food, but then everyone was talking and laughing, but then they were speaking much faster than I could understand. And I feel like they were talking about how late I was and they saw it as being arrogant. >> I don't think they would mind if they knew the difference between west and east. I know that in the west, it's okay if you're late for more than one hour, even two hours to a party. But in China, there is no such kind of party. You are actually invited to a banquet. So to a banquet here, you're supposed to arrive always on time. And the banquet would not start unless everyone has arrived. >> Okay. I can't wait to invite my Chinese friends to a real Western party. >> Yeah, you should. [SOUND]
