[MUSIC] Hi, how are you? Today is the last class in the first week. The title today is self-reflection and world peace. We started this lecture by asking the question, what is the goal of life? Then we surveyed the literature on self-reflection. We drew our life graph and to talk about the self who leads our life. And we learned why man is incomplete. In the last class we talked about the ultimate goal of self-reflection. The ultimate goal of this course is to change our incomplete life into a complete one to live happily and peacefully. Today, I am going to talk how great our happiness can be if we live peacefully in the world with our neighbors. And I will also talk about how to achieve world peace. Let us start with the Constitution of UNESCO, adopted 70 years ago in London to fulfill mankind's wish for world peace. The first sentence of the declaration is that "since wars begin in the minds of men, it is in the minds of men that the defenses of peace must be constructed." It is clearly recognized that the starting and the final points for peace are in the minds of men. The constitution emphasizes communication between their peoples and mutual understanding and a truer and more perfect knowledge of each other's lives for the promotion of international peace and welfare of mankind. It can be said that visual understanding and the communication also begin in the minds. If we know our mind, we can understand other people's lives too and to communicate with them better. Therefore, if we reflect on our own mind and eliminate the obstacles for peace, we can achieve a great mind. Then, we can create a peaceful world. Let us study one sentence for a peaceful world which appears in the Chinese classic "University". This sentence states that world peace begins with the understanding of material world first. The first two Chinese character mean observation of material objects. There are several interpretations in the first two Chinese characters but in other words, it is know the principle of the material property very well. Next two Chinese characters mean arrival at the knowledge which can be interpreted as "you can know life very well". In other words, if you know the principle of a material property very well, you can know life very well. The next two Chinese character mean sincere willingness. And next two Chinese character mean the righteous mind. It can be said that "Then, have a righteous mind with a sincere attitude for the peaceful world". The next sentence means "Train yourself to behave very well". Manage your family very well and Govern the country very well. The last Chinese letters mean "The world will be peaceful". It can be said that the peaceful world can be fulfilled after training yourself to behave very well, managing a family very well and governing the country very well. To summarize, the phrase in the Book, University, world peace can be achieved from the observation of a material [kukmul FOREIGN]. But, the most important phrase is "The righteous mind". In order to know what is the righteous mind, we need to know the components of the Chinese character for righteous [chung]. [chung] is composed of [il] which means one, and the [chi] which means stop or end. Therefore [chung-shim] the righteous mind means one mind. In other words, to have a righteous mind, is to have one mind, mot to have too many minds, which is a key point of the whole phrase. To have one mind is difficult. As the UNESCO Constitution state men's mind can be major causes of war. Those minds are obstacles in achieving world peace and personal happiness as well. The ultimate goal of this course, human completion, is to live without the various minds inside by observing and eliminating the obstacles preventing world peace and personal happiness. Now, let us summarize the lecture in the first week. We checked our goal of life. If there is a gap between our goal and our current state, we can close the gap through self-reflection. The second class, we review the literature on self-reflection. It is reported, you can improve academic achievement and the self-esteem through self-reflection. You can improve mental stability and concentration through meditation. Meditation is a self-reflection which is a mega trend in the 21st century. In the third class, we drew our life graph. Sometimes we are satisfied and other times we are dissatisfied, depending on our surroundings. If we discover the causes of dissatisfaction and eliminate them, we can live a satisfied life In the fourth class, we talked about the self-leadership. Your self has led you right now. If you strengthen self-leadership, you can achieve your goal. The core point of self-leadership is self-observation and positive communication with oneself. But as stated in a recently published book, the self is an illusion. Therefore, it is very hard to observe yourself objectively. In the fifth class, we learned that life is incomplete because the self is an illusion. You can achieve human completion when the imaginary self is eliminated. In the sixth class, we covered that the ultimate goal of self-reflection is to live happily and peacefully with a great mind by eliminating various minds inside ourselves. In today's class, the UNESCO constitution and the Chinese classic both inferred that the minds of men are obstacles in achieving the world peace. If you eliminate the minds preventing world peace, then a peaceful world can be achieved. From next week, we reflect on ourselves to clearly discover what is inside our minds. Our life graph shows us the big moments in our lives and it helps us to find the minds of accumulated from childhood. Hopefully, this lecture will be the turning point in your life for human completion. As an assignment, please watch the movie, The King's Speech and please bring your life graph also. See you next week.
