[MUSIC] There are many different types of academic programs available at Japanese universities. I would strongly recommend you to do research way in advance so that you can find the program that fits you the best. Each program has its different application procedure. Just as an example, we're going to talk about PEAK at the University of Tokyo. Can you tell us what sort of materials that you had to prepare to apply to our program? >> Mm-hm. So first of all, I submitted all the application form, and along with it, two essays in response to the questions that were all asked to us by the university. Those were, I think, not too long, about 300 words each. And together with that, I submitted my predicted grades for the GCSE A levels in Singapore, and also three recommendation letters from my teachers in high school and middle school, I think. >> Right. Our application material consists of an application form, two short essays in response to the questions posed in the application guideline, high school transcripts, reference letters from teachers, and some kind of test scores that you take in your own country. Many schools accept different kinds of test scores, and you need to check in advance whether they accept your scores. After the first document screening, what happened in the PEAK program? >> They notified us that we would proceed to the interview stage, and I had three professors fly into Singapore to interview all the applicants from Singapore. So at the interview, it was about 45 to 50 minutes long, and there were three professors in person in Singapore and two over Skype. And yeah, it was a pretty interesting [LAUGH] conversation that I had >> At the University of Tokyo, we have a fairly long interview by a group of professors, and asking about why you want to come to Japan as well as certain academic subjects, right? >> yes >> Again, the application and admission system are different from school to school. Schools require different kinds of documents. Some schools have long interviews, some schools have short interviews, some schools do in-person interviews, and other schools might do a Skype interview with you. And some may not interview you at all. You have to do research to make sure you know what you will be going through. [MUSIC]
