[MUSIC] Now we're going to try an activity called shadowing. You do this by finding an interesting recorded conversation, by listening to in many times, and by repeating after speakers. You try to imitate the speakers' voices exactly, not only their sounds, but also their rhythm, their pauses, and the way their voices go up and down. It's important to do this many times. Repeating after a conversation once helps a little. But when you repeat after our conversation again and again, the practice builds up. And after a while, you can say the sounds and music of English more naturally and more automatically. Now, let's listen to a conversation between two speakers. First, listen for an overall comprehension of the conversation. Hey, hey. >> Yeah. >> Do you want to see a movie tonight? >> Maybe, what kind of movie? >> Well here is an adventure movie that looks good, its about explorer fighting wild animals in the wilderness. >> I don't know, that sounds kind of violent. Is there something else probably? Okay, how about this one? It's a love story called My Vampire Valentine. >> My Vampire Valentine, really? That's just plain weird. Who's going to fall in love with a vampire? >> I don't know, vampires are really popular right now. >> Forget it, lets not watch a movie. Let's just grab dinner instead. >> Okay do you want to go to Patty's Potato Palace? >> Of course, yay! >> Yay! >> Now listen again, repeating each sentence after the speakers. Hey, hey, hey, do you want to see a movie tonight? >> Maybe, what kind of movie? >> Well here's an adventure movie that looks good It's about explorers fighting wild animals in the wilderness. >> I don't know. That sounds kind of violent. Is there something else playing? Okay. How about this one? It's a love story called My Vampire Valentine My Vampire Valentine. Really? That's just plain weird. Who's going to fall in love with a vampire? I don't know. Vampires are really popular right now. >> Forget it. Let's not watch a movie. Let's just grab dinner instead. Okay. Do you want to go to Patty's Potato Palace? >> Of course! >> Yeah! Practice again many times until you feel more comfortable with the sound patterns. You might even want to say the lines along with the speakers as you listen to the conversation. Keep using this technique with videos that you choose. In order to make your pronunciation sound more natural and more understandable. [MUSIC]
