We have chosen a particular instrument
to help you understand how to identify your personal style when it comes to change.
And the reason why this particular instrument is being recommended for,
or to be used for this particular course is
because change is a huge stimulator for conflict.
If you understand your personal style,
then you'll have a better understanding of how you interface when conflict exists.
So this particular change style indicator is by Discovery Learning,
and it's an assessment tool that you can use to help
identify one of the characteristics of a change style.
And again, the reason and the relationship of the
two is because change is a huge catalyst for conflict.
The indicator has been around for many years,
and it has been validated and definitely researched instrument.
So it's one that you can trust in the results that it does produce for you
once you take the assessment.
The one thing that I want to talk about is that it's a preferred style instrument.
It's not saying it's the only style that you have,
or can use, or should use.
It's just identifying which one comes naturally to you.
So when you take the instrument, and get your results,
don't feel like you're being pigeon-holed into one particular area.
Just know which one is your nature versus your nurture.
So, nature is your preferred style.
Then what the instrument will also do is it will
take you into two different areas where it can
recommend some styles that you might want to nurture yourself to use,
based on the circumstances in the situation of conflict.
So then you'll have your preferred style,
plus two other options to choose from when appropriate.
Understanding all three options of styles with respect to change will just allow you
to be able to enhance your skills when you're dealing with conflict.
Knowing which style to use, knowing which style is the best style to impart
to use during different complex situations.
And as indicated in the introduction in the
instrument which I wanted to point out, it says,
"Understand the source of conflict associated with change,
and the relationship between conflict and your preferred style."
So it's really a good instrument to choose and to consider to use so you can
become better at dealing with conflict and more skilled at conflict resolution.
