Hello, and welcome to class.
My name is Charles Severance, and I'm your instructor.
This is the first class in our specialization,
and I kind of debated about what to put in the class.
It turned out to be a little long.
We really like maybe five classes,
five weeks in a class,
but I just couldn't find a place to break this into two classes.
So this is a good class,
and if you finish this class,
you kind of hit on the essential basics of the things that we need to do.
We're going to cover HTML, Hypertext Markup Language;
Cascading Style Sheet, CSS;
Hypertext Transport Protocol; and PHP.
Now, I'm hoping that you already know CSS a little bit,
and I'm not really trying to teach you how to
become a web designer to show you the look of all these things.
We just want you to be kind of a web mechanic because we're going to work
more on the back end and how we create applications,
not how to build a beautiful application.
If you want to learn how to build a beautiful application, a responsive application,
an accessible application, that's
Web Design for Everybody taught by my colleague Colleen Van Lent.
And you kind of technically can take either specialization in either order,
or you can sort of learn sort of the mechanics of it.
And then, you could learn sort of how to make it look good,
or you could learn to make it look good in the mechanics.
I think the best way to do it is to do web design first and then web application second.
And that's kind of how Colleen and I marked it out.
We came up with the two specializations,
but you can go in any direction.
And if you're here first, go ahead and start.
And remember, that we're not going to show you how to make things beautiful,
and there's a whole another specialization that tells you how to do that.
And so, if you have problems,
hit us up in the forms.
Instructional staff can help you out.
Instructional staff can do things like look at your submissions and help you out.
And if you need to get a hold of me,
the best way to get a hold of me is on Twitter,
and you just mention @drchuck,
D-R-C-H-U-C-K. And usually, I'm sort of somewhere on the planet,
and within a few minutes, I'll see it.
So if it's like, "Oh assignment four is broken," I'll find out about it really quick.
So with that, I'll welcome you again to the class and good luck.
And, hope to see you at the end with everything finished up.
